San Luis Pass County Park
Freeport, TX

San Luis Pass County Park sits on Follets Island at the far west end of the Brazoria County coastline, right where the pass separates it from Galveston Island. It's built around fishing, with a pier and boat ramp, but there's a real swimming beach here too, plus enough facilities, showers, a fish cleaning station, a playground, that it works as a full day trip rather than just a stop.
Reliable facilities and genuine wheelchair access set it apart, but it's more of a fishing destination than a swimming beach, so it draws a specific crowd rather than a broad one.
How we score beachesAsk about the beach wheelchair rental at the park office if mobility is a concern, it's one of the few spots on this stretch of coast that offers one.
Parking is five dollars with a permit required, a paved lot on site.
The park is marked disabled friendly with a beach wheelchair available to rent, a notable exception on a coastline where most access points are unpaved and soft sand.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
Wind picks up through spring, which is what draws the kiteboarders, while summer brings the calmest water for swimming, into the low 80s by August.
