Bring your own shade and everything else you'll need, there's no concession stand once you're actually on the island.
There's no vehicle access to the island itself. Ferries and shuttles depart from marinas near the Thomas Drive/Grand Lagoon Bridge, with round trip adult tickets running in the 20 to 25 dollar range.
Boats drop passengers directly onto the beach or a small dock, with soft natural sand the rest of the way. There's no boardwalk or paved path anywhere on the island.
Check with the specific ferry or shuttle operator before bringing a pet, policies vary by boat and some don't allow animals aboard.
Summer brings the calmest crossing conditions and the warmest water, alongside hurricane season starting in June. Shuttle service typically runs less frequently outside the summer season, worth checking ahead in spring or fall.
