Teluk Kampi

Teluk Kampi is the longest beach inside Penang National Park in Malaysia, a wide curve of sand on the island's north coast that most visitors reach only after a boat ride or a two hour jungle hike. Sea turtles nest here seasonally, monkeys move through the tree line, and because the walk in keeps casual visitors away, the beach rarely feels crowded.
A real payoff for the effort, with turtle nesting and genuine quiet that's rare this close to George Town, but the hike or boat commitment means it's not a spontaneous stop.
Hire a boat from the park entrance at Teluk Bahang rather than committing to the full hike unless you're prepared for a warm, humid five kilometer trek each way.
There's a car park at the Penang National Park entrance in Teluk Bahang, and from there it's either the boat or the trail, since no vehicles are allowed past the entrance.
The hiking trail is uneven jungle path, not suited to strollers or limited mobility, though arriving by boat drops you directly on the sand with a much easier entry.
December through February is Penang's dry season and the best window for sunny, calm beach days here. The rest of the year sees more frequent rain showers typical of this part of Malaysia.

Sunset Beach is the quieter western shore of Koh Kradan in Trang province, Thailand, a short walk across the island from the long main beach that gets most of the attention. There's less wave action here than on the east side, the swimming stays calmer, and as the name promises it's the spot locals and the handful of resort guests head to for the evening light.
