Whitecap Beach
Corpus Christi, TX

Whitecap Beach runs along North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, with Bob Hall Pier marking the spot where the surf gets consistent enough that it's become the go to break for local surfers. Waves peel off both sides of the pier depending on swell direction, while swimmers and families tend to spread out along the open sand further from the pilings.
A real local surf spot with genuine consistency near the pier, though the crowd of surfers and fishermen competing for the same stretch of water can get tense on a good swell day.
How we score beachesSurfers cluster right at the pier, so if you're swimming or setting up with kids, walk a few minutes down the beach away from the pilings where the current runs calmer and there's more room.
Parking requires a twelve dollar beach permit and lifeguards are on watch at the main Whitecap access point. Bob Hall Pier has its own lot with restrooms and a bait shop.
Paved parking leads straight to open beach, and the area is marked ADA compliant, one of the more accessible surf beaches on the island.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
Wind and swell pick up in spring, the best window for surfing, though wetsuits are worth packing since Gulf water stays cool into early spring. Summer brings the warmest swimming water, into the low 80s.
